PART ONE - VOCABULARY TERMS

 

Timeline - The editing area where video and audio clips are arranged in sequence to create a final project. It includes multiple layers or tracks for building complex edits.

 

Sequence - A sequence is a specific timeline where clips are edited together. A project can have one or multiple sequences depending on the needs of the video.

 

Project Panel - The area where all imported media (video, audio, images) is stored and organized. Think of it like a folder or bin holding your assets.

 

Source Monitor - Used to preview and trim raw clips before adding them to the timeline. It lets you set in and out points before editing.

 

Program Monitor - Displays the current state of the timeline, allowing you to see what your edited video looks like in real time.

 

Tracks - Layers in the timeline used to stack video or audio clips. You can use multiple video and audio tracks for titles, effects, background music, etc.

 

Razor Tool - A tool that allows you to split or cut a clip in the timeline at a specific point.

 

Playhead (Current Time Indicator) - The vertical line that shows where you are in the timeline. You can drag it to scrub through your video.

 

In and Out Points - Marks that define where a clip starts and ends before being added to the timeline. Set using the "I" and "O" keys in the Source Monitor.

 

Transition - An effect that blends two clips together, such as fades or dissolves, to make cuts feel smoother or more creative.

 

Effect Controls Panel - Where you adjust the properties of a selected clip (like position, scale, opacity, and effects) and add keyframes for animation.

 

Essential Graphics Panel - Used to create and customize text, titles, and motion graphics. It includes templates and tools to design on-screen graphics.

 

Export - The process of saving your completed video as a final file (like an MP4). This is done through the "Export Media" window.

 

H.264 - A common video format used when exporting in Premiere Pro. It creates high-quality files that are small and compatible with platforms like YouTube.

 

Render - The process of processing video effects and transitions so playback is smoother. Rendering can reduce lag when editing.
